The currency of Colombia is the peso. Denominations in coins come in fifty, one hundred, two hundred, five hundred, and one thousand pesos. Paper currency is issued in denominations of one thousand, two thousand, five thousand, twenty thousand and fifty thousand peso notes. Most banks are open the following hours Monday thru Thursdays 8:00am - 12:30pm, closing for a mid day siesta reopening at 2:00 pm until 4:00pm. On Fridays the same schedule applies but most banks stay open till 4:30pm. Currency exchanges at banks are usually done during the morning hours. If you plan on doing any banking transactions a passport is always required. Most major credit cards are accepted with proper identification(passport). Cartagena has several banking institutions that offer (ATM's) throughout the city. |
